Program Note
Emerging Malaysian director Ming Jin Woo was inspired to make this film by the Bali bomb attack of 2002. A small group of terrorists in a country based on Malaysia blow up a nightclub with many foreign (particularly American) visitors in a big city, tragically killing 199 people. The film describes the chief of arrests the criminals, takes them to the crime scene and makes them reconstruct the criminal process. Talking bombastically to let reporters know the truth of the case, the chief tortures the captured terrorists, Gozi, Kilik and Kosovo. Yet the only fact he reveals is that the criminals did ′this′, they did ′that′, and the result killed people in great numbers. Where can we find real truth that the facts rely on? Why did they have to resort to terrorism? Without the sound of shots or bomb blasts, the director has made a film on terrorism. "I talk about not terrorism, but terrorists They are as human as we are. They have everyday lives, fall in love and have a fear of violence as we do." (Lee Wang-joo)
