The Last Dining Table connects slowly each of five characters` everyday lives. Only after the progress of time are we able to understand their relationship to each other. And yet we still get a sense of embarrassed awkwardness after realizing this is a story about two families. Trapped within their own lives, these characters are unable to find anything to connect them to the outside world, though they carry on everyday lives like clockwork. It takes time to get used to the style of direction that seems to observe this form of immobile life emotionlessly. However the moment when we sense the film`s physicality that seem to flow from the characters` lives and style all at once, The Last Dining Table heralds the possibility of an impressive new cinema. Even though there are emotionless and desperate characters behind the blank faces, a giant sea of depressed emotion flows behind them. We can get the emotional movement from this film that takes an extreme experimental form. (Kim Young-jin)
