Program Note
Sam and Jonathan are salesmen selling new products resemble a modern Don Quixote and Sancho. Through their journey, the various angles of the human condition with all its humor, tragedy, vulnerability and greatness are highlighted. Roy Andersson’s finale in ‘The Living Trilogy’ exploring the human condition captures various people with fixed camerawork. In contrast to the rhythmic theme music, the stiff, expressionless characters that move with minimal effort create a dark and depressed atmosphere. The only space where song, laughter and communication exist is a neighborhood bar sought out by penniless youth or lonely beings. Lingering ghosts of the past and individuals weighed down by a reality fixated on the capitalist accumulation of wealth appear in various scenes. The title refers to a poem recited by a female student in front of her classmates whereby what the pigeon reflects upon is the fact that there is no money. (RHEE Soue-won)
