Program Note
Daytime Drinking director Noh Youngseok’s sophomore feature film. A man goes to a mountain cabin in winter to do some undistracted writing, but things start to go wrong from the very beginning. A young man in the village kindly shows him the way to the cabin, turning into a nuisance later on. When he finally arrives at the cabin a group of young people on a ski trip ask for a room to stay in overnight. The quiet cabin gets boisterous and a grotesque murder is perpetrated. Just as in his debut film Noh once again displays his talent in dealing with suspense. A series of foreboding misunderstandings eventually impede solving the case. That night, the young skiers and a gang of hunters come to the cabin to binge on food and drink, while the writer goes into a room to shun the young villagers and finds a dead body. Who killed the victim, and for what? The random behavior of the guests worsens the situation, with the vicious cycle finally achieving a high level of suspense. (NAM Dong-chul)
