Forbidden love doesn’t include only immoral intimacy. If a woman in her forties loves a 17-year old male that could also be forbidden. Forty-something, screenwriter Gaeul, lives with a 17-year old. Her family cannot understand any aspect of her life: raising a cat, living on vegetables, and moreover, a 17-year old lover! To them, Gaeul’s love life is nothing more than a dirty scandal. “I am afraid I might lose courage. There are just too many things for us to fight against and what if I can’t say a word, behaving foolish in front of them?” The boy’s line penetrates to the heart of this film and signals that the lovers face overwhelming opposition. The age gap is not everything. Though poor and constantly switching employment from one job to another, they still keep their tender hearts. They simply cannot ignore the sick cat. The world pushes them to eat meat, to meet someone who suits your age, and to have an abortion, and they really need courage to stand against such a world. Pascha is a brave film. (NAM Dong-chul)
