Program Note
15 is a story about three delinquent teenagers who are trying to discover their identities in a fast developing society. The real street kids that appear on the screen add realism to this film. They feel that violence and corruption are the only things they learned from society, an attitude which comically mirrors Singapore’s dark side.
Director
Royston Tan
In 2004, Time Magazine named Royston Tan one of the “Top 20 Asian Heroes” for being bold, brave and remarkable in his field. Tan’s retrospective show 0104, a showcase featuring his award-winning short films over the last decade, has traveled worldwide. In 2006, Royston Tan’s second feature film, [4:30], held its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival and won several international awards. In 2007, his 3rd feature film, [881], became the top grossing local film in Singapore.
