This documentary tells the story of ten year-old Kabri Wali, performer in the Gayo traditional form of sung poetry called ‘didong’ in Indonesia. He comes from a family of ‘didong’ singers and performers in a group managed by his father. The group, consisting of neighbours and relatives, rehearse every week in preparation for a district competition where teams wage stylized verbal combats against one another. The group wins but it is the joy of singing that is most important to Kabri.
