2008 ACF Post - Production Fund Sang-hoon is a scamp working to get money from debtors to creditors. His swearing and violence all result from a childhood nightmare. Due to his father’s drinking problem, he lost his mother and sister. After a long time in jail, his father gets out to see Sang-hoon. The director himself was an actor in many Korean independent movies, and decided to tell his autobiographical experience in his debut film as a director. He has not yet made accomplishments like John Cassavetes who was also actor and a director in the American independent film industry and displayed his own philosophical style, but Yang does resemble Cassavetes in the way that he follows characters’ emotions with careful observation. Above all, Yang has the power to make the audience gaze at a character’s furious face. All of this would have been impossible if he did not have the experience of being an actor himself. The process of Sanghoon learning about the world as he encounters a high school student Yeon-hee seems like a typical story but it certainly touches everyone’s heart. (LEE Sang-yong)
