Fix exemplifies the fact that what it takes to make a good sci-fi film is not a huge budget, but a wildly creative imagination. Nanase is a slacker living at his girlfriend′s place and wasting his time.One day he receives a strange phone call offering him 500,000 Yen if he ceases to live for 3 month. After a while, creatures that look exactly like him, and that try to take his life are chasing him. The numerous ′pseudo-Nanases′-technically speaking, the creatures aren′t his clones, but doppelgangers-are similarto a human being with a divided self. As the self divides, it becomes impossible to claim self-identity and all value systems are undermined. The chaos caused by the creatures reaches its peak when Nanase encounters a woman claiming to be his father. Director Nobutaka Yamaoka does not only attempt to pay homage to great sci-fi like The Matrix and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but also intends to entertain the audience with a hybrid of various genres; adopting the generic elements of slasher films and traditional Japanese monster movies to the SF genre. However, the film demands a certain amount of concentration from the audience, for it is never easy to keep track of the real Nanase. (Kim Ji-seok)
