Everybody craves power, albeit to different degrees. In a society where power moves only hierarchically, the symbols of power must be constantly reproduced. Uniform tells a story of one man who happens to come across a symbol of power as represented by a police uniform. Xiao Jian, an ordinary tailor, tries on the police uniform of one of his customers. Noticing the way that other people treat him differently than before, Xiao Jian becomes infatuated with this small power given to him. Endowed by this illusionary power, Xiao confidently approaches Zheng Shasha, who he has a crush on at first sight, and makes her his girl. But before long, not only his double-life but her own as a music shop clerk during the day and a bargirl at night, is revealed. But stragely, they decide to recognize and accept the other′s pretensions: they feel relief from the fantasy of those insecure realities. Now, the question of ethics fades away. These two, who desperately try to forget their loneliness through falsity and fallacy, represent alienated contemporary Chinese youth. (Kim Ji-seok)
