Program Note
The events of this film begin with the return of the beautiful young Tania to her small mining village. She has spent the past five years working as a model; but, tired of life in the big city, she overwhelms her shy childhood sweetheart, Mishka, by proposing to him. He is overjoyed, but his parents are wary. The locals are all miners, and their first paycheck in six months arrives on the day of the wedding. Mishka′s check, however, is confiscated by his parents to pay for the celebration, to which the entire town has been invited. Lack of money to buy a wedding present for his bride forces him to turn to his perpetually drunk friend for help. And so the hijinks begin... Though the wedding is imminent, the bridegroom is now in jail, the local policeman intransigent, and to top it all off, Tania′s Mafia ex-boyfriend has just arrived with his entourage. All the while the alcohol flows freely.
