The film opens with a rather shocking scene and quickly transitions to the everyday life of the beloved Guras. A nine-year-old girl living in a mountainous village near Darjeeling, Guras lives with her parents who cultivate cardamom and other plants. Her cherished companion is a dog named Tinkle, who goes missing one day. The film places Guras’ adventurous quest to find Tinkle at the forefront and interweaves the subplot of her parents’ dire financial troubles caused by the plummeting cardamom prices. Faced with Tinkle’s loss, Guras moves away from the world of magical realism where her imaginations and dreams seamlessly blended with reality, and enters the harsh realm of loss. At this juncture, the revisits the opening scene. What forces the innocent Guras out of the magical realm she once inhabited?
