Program Note
Jay, a promising young writer, is about to publish her new book. Geonwoo,
Jay′s roommate and lover, works as an English instructor at a private
institute and silently assists Jay. Both of them care about each other and
are happy as they are. However, Jay’s unplanned pregnancy brings huge
changes, causing conflicts between the two. Jay becomes sensitive due
to the combined pressures of pregnancy and publishing demands, and
Geonwoo sets up an academy running a risk. Birth is an ominously subtle
work, the dark themes of which already seem to take shape in the early
scene in which Jay and Geonwoo sit at the breakfast table and have a
peaceful conversation about a dream. Birth is a sensitive meditation and
careful reflection on those in need of life. (JUNG Hanseok)
