The latest film by acclaimed Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky, known for Maria’s Lovers and Runaway Train. In 1962, workers stage labor strikes in Soviet Russia. In a supposed paradise for laborers, the military opens fire and the massacre is covered up. Lyudmila, a Communist Party member who sincerely believes in its ideals, sides with suppressing the protests. Entrapped in vain discussions, the party members are unable to recognize the gravity of the situation and become bent on avoiding responsibility when the killing occurs. When her daughter goes missing, Lyudmila is seized by fear. In a desperate search for her daughter, she finally comes to witness the horrors of the massacre. (NAM Dong-chul)
