Program Note
Beautiful and hand drawn with direction from Jean-Francois Laguionie this castaway tale features a seventy something Louise and she is stranded for winter in a French seaside town. The result of missing the last train out of town, she has to face the impending storm alone. Surprising herself with her resilience she sets about making shelter, foraging food and generally settling in. Intrepidation turns to bliss as she enjoys a carefree existence with no humans around. Pepper the dog becomes her man Friday as they share the time together. Although set in a bleak and windswept world this is a tale that shines sunlight on the human condition and spreads warmth through the potential to fully realise who we are. Will the distant cliff be more than a key to her past memories, a series of beautifully interwoven flashback scenes, will the journey towards it help unlock the future or yield answers to the questions? Indeed does wisdom come with age?
