Program Note
Ghashang and Farang are two elderly sisters who decided to live together following the death of Ghashang’s husband. Bachman, Ghashang’s son, joins them after getting divorced from his wife, a painter who left him because of his obsession for films and writing. Their daughter, Fara, also disapproves of his unrealistic idealism. Bachman’s cousin, Vahid, rounds out the disparate household. At the onset of the film, Bachman is hit by a car while out for a walk and falls into a coma. From there, the film, narrated by Bachman, continues in a somewhat whimsical mood. Members of the family hear about his accident and each one recalls a memory they and Bachman had shared together while he was conscious. Scenes vacillate between reality and dream, memories and wishes, reminding us that film often serves as the ideal medium for memories, wishes, and retrospections. (HONG Soin)
