Flesh of Your Flesh is a realistic portrait, while at the same time a fantasy, of the political and economic elite at the time of The Violence in Colombia, from the mid-1940s until the mid-1960s. In this horror film—also a tragic melodrama—Mayolo combines genre film aesthetics with his reconstruction of historical events. The film was not warmly welcomed by critics of the time, but Flesh of Your Flesh is now seen as a very unusual film from Colombian film history with Mayolo’s feverish vision where myth and reality coexist.
