Program Note
Liveforever was inspired by the great Colombian urban and youth novel by Andrés Caicedo, written a few years before his suicide in 1977. María del Carmen, a spoiled girl from an upper-class family, wants to follow the path of a friend who deprived herself of nothing: drugs, sex, parties, danger. The film follows the protagonist’s path; encounters with several lovers that she pushes aside without regard, looking to be faithful only to her passion. With a fragmented and elliptical style, Carlos Moreno reconstructs María del Carmen’s dizzying story, using some of the novel’s text as the connecting thread, perhaps as Caicedo himself would have wanted it.
