Program Note
Veteran Iranian director Kamal Tabrizi’s new comedy-drama is about a middle aged, short-tempered man and the ridiculous events that occur following the death of his wife. Kamali holds a fancy funeral for his wife, but it is obvious he is not at all sad. To him, it was all about his fame and fortune. Then, one day, he is shocked to find that his wife’s burial ground was double contracted, and that his wife has been buried with the body of an unknown man. After he has a dream involving his wife with another man, he believes it an omen indicating the grave situation will hurt his reputation. So he begins to do everything he can to save his reputation, which eventually leads him to his own downfall. With director Tabrizi’s keen sense of satire and observations of social, political and religious issues, as well as a great central performance by Reza Attaran, who received the Crystal Phoenix for Best Actor at the Fajr International Film Festival 2014, the film proves itself a must-see social comedy.
