Program Note
Daughter..Mother..Daughteris a colorful piece by the cinematic poet Panahbarkhoda Rezaee. Three women are living stagnant lives in the beautiful countryside. Fully grown-up but handicapped, the daughter has to lie in bed all day without receiving proper treatment. The elder mother’s life is full of longing, missing the husband that is gone from her life. Even the elderly grandmother seems to transcend loneliness while spinning yarn. The dialogue, storytelling and movements of the film are extremely restrained, but beautiful light, lyrical music and magical narration make the film very compelling. Differing in the grammar of familiar entertainment films, the beauty ironically grants touching reality and involvement. The use of color is noticeable when compared with the intense use of black and white in A Light in the Fog(2008, New Currents, BIFF), and Daughter... Father... Daughter(2011, A Window on Asian Cinema, BIFF). (PARK Sungho)
