Program Note
A comedy film about two young Japanese women of Satori(nirvana) generation. A freelancer writer Tamami ran into another woman Juno in the house of her boyfriend whom she dated for months. They soon realized that their mutual boyfriend is ‘virgile’ enough to date 5 women simultaneously to get inspired for his artwork. Failed in the relationship, the two women quickly become close drinking all night. Then they decided to travel together to ‘power spots’ known as a place to dramatically increase the luck of love. There they meet a master romance novel writer who suffers from lack of ideas. To help him, they begin simulation dating with him... This film can hardly be a romantic comedy as there’s little about tender passion, not a road movie as the low-budget sceneries often are tasteless. They are all losers. However the director Matsumura Shingo seems to say it is the reality. Is it ordinary to be lack of luck in romance although we all know that there’s no fairy tale happily ever after very well. Too well. Isn’t it normal that we superficially deny superstitions, but can’t help but depend on them in the end? There somehow must be a hope in relationship. The two women had nothing in common but become rapidly close to each other embracing each other’s broken heart. (PARK Sungho)
