A drama about contemporary Poles whose fates interweave in a monumental moment in time. The ‘moment’ refers to an actual event when following the death of the Pope, millions of people manifested their spiritual union by turning off the lights in their houses. The title refers to the 3 minute time-space in that evening that we repeatedly come back to in the film. It is not a religious film but rather secular. It focuses on the miracle of inner changes caused by extraordinary events. The plot covers four parallel stories of people who impact each others’ lives unconsciously: A young man who can’t agree with aggressions around him, becomes violent; A director finds his true love from an accidental encounter; A painter realizes his passion for the director’s daughter; A father who wants to protect his son from his past. Despite frustrating circumstances, the film never gives up hope. The dialectic montage of image-sound, image-image and sound-sound, functions to deliver this message. It is safe to say that this film is an example that reflects a cirtain tendency in Polish film today. (JEON Chanil)
