Program Note
One day, as the mother announces her marriage, the relationship between mother and daughter faces the crisis. In addition, her husband-to-be is a blonde-dyed-haired thirty years old man. Tsuki, the daughter moves into the landlady’s house to show her strong objection to her mother’s marriage, the mother seems unshakable. Korean Japanese director O Mipo presents her second film and once again tells a story about family. As if proving one of the most important acts of family is sharing the food, the film frequently presents dining scenes. As repeated the dining scene, the number of the family seems increasing one by one. Here Comes the Bride, My Mom shows the process of how the lonely people become a family. Tsuki who couldn’t overcome her painful past and leaned on her mother, a mother who lived all alone over the 25 years for the sake of her daughter, the future husband Ken who is lost in the world after his grandmother died, a landlady and a doctor who live alone, all of them live close by yet distant from each other but they are reborn as a family through the mother’s marriage. O Mipo
Born in 1977, O Mipo studied Visual Concept Planning at Osaka Art University. After five years as the protégé to director Nobuhiko Obayashi, she worked as a script supervisor for feature films. Her shorts, [Eye](2002) and [Grandmother](2003) won numerous awards at international film festivals. O Mipo also won the the 2005 Sundance/NHK International Filmmakers Award for the screenplay for [The Sakais′ Happiness.]
