A story about a girl that lives with her mother’s father. Jiang Wenli is a seasoned actor who is making a directorial debut with this autobiographical story that she wrote herself. It takes place in the late seventies during the Cultural Revolution in China. Her parents have been sent to Xinjiang and three-year-old Xiaolan goes to spend her childhood with her grandfather who used to be a locomotive engineer. Xiaolan learns gymnastics, which is something that she always dreamed of doing, and also witnesses the love and death of a young neighbor. She grows up with her grandfather by her side. Thanks to her grandfather, Xiaolan grows up as a very normal child despite the adversity around her. However, Xiaolan must come to terms with bidding a dreaded farewell to her grandfather.
