Program Note
The second feature film of Mani Hagigi. It is a sophisticated comedy based on an idea took from from iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami. This film describes the men′s struggle with the intractable boulder as an allegory for the nature or the meaning of mens working. Four old friends notice a big rock beside the road and attempt to move it, but are unable to even budge it. Gradually, more and more people come to help move it, but to no avail. Resigned, the people start to disperse, leaving one sole person who can do nothing. His friends, worrying about him, return to the rock, which only moves when no one notices it. (Mina Oak)
