Program Note
Dysfunctional, lost people trapped in repeating cycles that they′d like to escape populate Angel′s Fall. Zeynep works as a hotel housekeeper. Her days are filled with tedious work, shared by her only friend, Mustafa. Mustafa has a crush on Zeynep, which is not reciprocated. The only responses he gets are jokes and withering remarks. Zeynep′s evenings are occupied by her difficult father, with whom she lives. In a better part of town, Selcuk is dealing with the loss of his wife, Funda; he′s almost unable to function without her. By chance, Zeynep comes into possession of a suitcase full of Funda′s clothes and the stage is set for Zeynep and Selcuk′s fates to cross-and to have irreversible effects on each other. Shot in hard colour and taking place in an equally hard Istanbul winter, Angel′s Fall is an emotional film where very little emotion is displayed. The searching, introverted characters have their feelings represented by the haunting music of Edvard Grieg and the naturalistic cinematography in this story of two directionless souls that finally come together.
