Program Note
Glittering with colorful expressions and cheerfulness, Citizn Dog tells a love story between a young man named Pod who comes to Bangkok from the countryside, and a genuine but single-minded woman named Jin. Pod is a delicate and a quiet man who has his finger reattached after it gets cut off at the canning factory. After meeting Jin, who works as a maid, he begins to like her more and he becomes a taxi driver because he wants to be her escort. However, Jin falls in love with a foreigner who has a book that she believes could change her life once she reads it, and so she becomes an environmental activist. In a city painted with the images of a dead person riding a motorcycle and plastic bottles making up a mountain in the city, these two people meet, part and then meet each other again. Having made the opportunity for the Thai film industry to overcome its slump by writing scripts for Dang Bireley and Young Gangsters and Nang Nak, Wisit Sasanatieng made a strange but enjoyable film that is full of humor and visual entertainment, that freely alternates between music video and animation. How will this ordinary people′s love story-told in an unusual way-come to an end? When Pod climbs the mountain of plastic while thinking of Jin, we witness the moment when the story of a man and a woman looking for love in the world is born again into an urban fairy tale.
