What Elsa wants is to have some money, to work and live at a place where she wants, and to live happily ever after with her loved one. This is her definition of happiness. Although her family and friends live in Argentina, she leaves for Italy to meet the man she has known-and who whispered words of love in her ear-for a day. Her grandfather, in the mean time, arrived in Argentina from Italy in the 1960s-just like his grand daughter, to find his share of happiness. But for these two-whose destination is a departure point and vice versa-happiness is fleeting and rare. However, they follow the grandfather’s words, ‘life must go on.’ The grandfather joins the protest marches against Argentina’s power failure each day, and Elsa, in the meantime, wishes daily in front of the fountain and throws in a dime. But then, why is the title of the film, A Lucky Day? It seems that the director, with the ironical title and freely moving camera, seems to encourage us to never lose an optimistic outlook and liveliness. (Kim Sun-yup)
