Program Note
It is hard to accept something ′as it is,′ or as a whole. This is because of people′s inclination for selectivity; we give an object a meaning by selecting bits and pieces of it according to own perspective. This is more so when one is giving a certain meaning to one′s self. Director Naomi Kawase chose herself as the subject of her film. The images of flower, wind, and the shadow of a tree not only stimulates our eyes but our tactile senses- just like how we feel an inclination to touch our grandmother′s wrinkles. It is a formidable task to seek one′s hidden ego, imbedded somewhere inside one′s self. It is perhaps like doing a tattoo: the form of one′s body only comes out after numerous incisions to the skin. A film about finding new ways to communicate, with the camera as our medium. (Nam In-Young)
