Elsa Andersson grows up on a farm in Sweden in the early 20th century. Her mother dies while giving birth to Elsa′s little sister, leaving Elsa with only her father and brother. Then, a housekeeper arrives and starts an affair with her father, further isolating Elsa. Only through her music teacher, Felix, does she learn to understand her artistic nature. Thus Elsa receives her call from an exciting field: She becomes fascinated by airplanes and enters a new flying school as the only female student. Elsa fascinates the male pilots and several fall in love with her. She basks in their admiration and in the challenges posed by the airplanes. After a fateful affair, she finishes her studies, becoming the first female Swedish pilot. Having recovered, she goes to Berlin to train as a parachutist. In Germany Elsa experiences a new type of love, festivity and cheerfulness. She returns to Sweden, where she tempts fate with parachute-jumping shows.
