Program Note
A Dog′s Day quietly depicts the confusion and disorder caused by a dog donated to a town by a lord who gave up authority and declared democracy. This film indirectly suggests that at times high moral justifications are contradictory and often meaningless. Although the townspeople respect the lord for giving the rights back to the people, their antagonism towards the lord is stoked by the rumor that the dog given to the town might have rabies. This film confidently depicts the serendipity and unpredictability of human nature, especially when people are entering a new chapter of their lives. The director shows the vulnerability of human life in an understated manner. Murali Nair attempts to kill two birds with one stone by employing non-professional actors′ facial expressions and the panorama of the Kerala region of India. (Kim Young-Jin)
