This film tells the themes of ′love′ and ′life′ in a beautiful and fantastic, yet sad fashion. In a small village 17 year old girl Mamlakat lives with her father and an ignorant brother. One moonlit night, she goes to the theatre and is seduced by a mysterious stranger, who then disappears, leaving her pregnant. To restore the family honor, her father and brother set out to find him. Mamlakat meets another man and marries him, however, a cow from the sky kills her father and her husband. As the villagers threaten her, her brother helps her to escape working miracles. Maybe her brother is a saint who disguised as a fool. Director khudojnazarov tries to show a strong woman seeking ′happiness′ and ′love′ created on screen is realistic but strange. As reality is more dramatic than fiction, the things happening to Mamlatka seem to be legends or myths even though most of them are real. Especially the small village in Tajikistan, where the film is set, which looks like a place from the past. Luna Papa is the film transcending place and time and harmonizing the reality and the fantasy in a strange way. (Kim Ji-Seok)
