Program Note
In a small apartment somewhere in Almaty, two 20-years old boys puff on grass. A radio is playing; thin white smoke spirals toward the ceiling; tramways rattle by outside. The two smokers slump into a mellow half-sleep and the hero of the film, washed by waves of drowsiness, recites poetry. The Place on the Tricorne is 22 episodes in a summer of our hero′s young life. Episodes filled with friends, rendez-vous, girls, alcohol and urgent poetry. Blurry days and chilly nights. Earnest conversations and fleeting encounters. The description of one episode could easily fit another and the weight and importance of each has yet to be decided. Which of the summer′s experiences will stick to his skin and penetrate his heart and which will simply wash off with the next rain? "The meaning of life has little to do with efforts or desires. It′s something more complicated and more interesting. And the real goal of the film is the idea that life is a strange and beautiful thing given to us like a precious jewel." (Ermek Shinarbaev)
