Program Note
The inhabitants of a far-away mountain village are tired of troubles and problems in their lives but somebody, may it be God, had sent them the last ordeal for their salvation. In the mountains the local shepherds find a young man dead, a stranger whom no one recognizes. This extraordinary accident and different attitudes of the villagers reveal the characters, ways of life, and traditions of these people. The men decide to leave the body in the old mosque for the night. We see by the wild birds that live there that the mosque is neglected and it′s obvious that villagers seldom attend it. It found out that a stranger wasn′t Moslem, making it impossible to bury him in accordance with Moslem tradition. But being human, they should treat him according to human custom. (Saida Tursunova)
