The Silence is the story of a young blind saint. Since the departure of his father for Russia, ten-year-old Korshid has lived alone with his mother in a small village in Tadzhikistan. The mother and son live a meager life, but Korshid`s uncanny ability to perceive the minute details of sound enables him to provide for the family by working as a string instrument tuner. His frequent lateness to work is caused by his habit of following the direction of beautiful sounds. Korshid has to keep his ears covered to keep himself from being enticed by sounds. But the world that Korshid encounters through his special gifts of perception is more profound than anyone can imagine. Those with a pure heart may see the beauty of Korshid′s heart. But for others, he is merely another blind kid. Korshid′s close friend, Nadaereh, however, understands how to find him even when lost in the busiest of market areas.
