Tina leaves her hometown and moves into a shared apartment. Her housemate is all the things Tina isn’t – Megi speaks fluent English, loves to party and is determined to “leave this fucking country”. When Tina’s plan to live with her boyfriend is not materialized and Megi’s US visa takes time to get processed, the two girls bond to become true “mates” that share not only living space but also the darkest secrets of their lives. The title is clearly inspired by Virginia Woolf’s assertion that “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write”. While Tina and Megi search for independence in this male-dominated world, they find comfort in each other and at the place they call home. The script co-written by director Ioseb “Soso” Bliadze and main actress Taki Mumladze does not rely on powerful dialogues or dramatic events. But this modest story of womanhood offers a sense of satisfaction and liberation, punctuated by its delightful finale. (Karen PARK)
