Program Note
Get Up deals with the hilarious happenings related to a James Brown, ′the King of Soul′, concert. The director Izutsu Kazuyuki, famous for Nodojiman, which portrayed the contestants for a TV singing contest, has wished to make a film about a real professional entertainer. His choice was James Brown, who has been praised as ′the King of Soul since 1950s. He has had 116 hits so far, and is recorded as the highest-selling artist in the history of R&B. Now at the age of 70, the legendary singer is still active with concerts for his numerous fans all over the world. Habara Daisuke, boss of the Habaraya kuzaclan, will begin serving a prison sentence in two days. As he dissolves his gang, he expresses regret over two things he will not be able to do. One is to see his daughter for the first time in 25 years, and the other is to go to the upcoming James Brown concert that he had planned to attend with his long-time friend and fellow yakuza Kanayama. Taking pity on Harbara, Kanayama comes up with an idea. He calls his henchman and orders, "Kidnap James Brown."
