In the ancient 10th century Indian Kingdom of Mala, the King and Qieen are asked to carry out an unpleasant ′request′ of the senate committee. Due to the King′s impotence, the Queen is ordered to sleep with another man to conceive for the King′s imptence, the Queen is ordered to sleep with another man to conceive for the King′s successor. The tradition called, ′niyog′, is not a matter of choice but a serious duty that the King and Queen must obey. Etemity describes the thoughts of the couple in detail, unfolding diverse repercussions of the conflict between social duty and personal emotion. But, interestingly, the film places self-awareness about sexuality alongside understandable feelings, such as jealousy, rage and confusion; feelings a couple in such a situation must have. Then, suddenly, Amol Paleka′s second film in his series about sexuality, first announces his theme through sensual images. But, the images he uses are not scenes of lovers. What the camera captures is characters as if it were hugging them, a splendidly decorated ancient palace and the red color that fills most of the film. All these artistic elements convey the director′s message. Etemity, though a low-budgeted non-Bollywood film, is surely a refreshing facet of Indian work.
