Program Note
Coral, a buxom young nurse who raises her two children along is a fan of French actor Charles Boyer. In order to make fun of her chubbiness and her corny personality, her colleagues offer her a letter written by a Nicolas Estrella, a double of Charles Boyer who is well acquainted with "lonely hearts columns." Coral answers Estrella′s letter (also known as Nico) and arranges an meeting with him. Nico, who is originally Spanish, cultivates his French accent. He wears a toupee to conceal his baldness. He wonderfully boosts his vague resemblance to Charles Boyer and trades on it withe ladies. When Coral first meets Nico, she′s immediately attracted to him. Nico tries to extort money from her, but Coral′s unexpected behaviour spoils Nico′s plan. They develop an inseparable relationship against Nico′s expectation.

Arturo Ripstein
A Mexican veteran filmmaker whose works have international impact, Arturo Ripstein was born in Mexico in 1943 and grew up in the world of film. His father was a famous producer, Alfredo Ripstein. At the age of only 22, he made his debut with 1965 based on a script by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Carlos Fuentes. He has directed numerous features, short films and documentaries. His films include Place without Limits(1977), Love Lies(1988), Queen of the Night(1993), Deep Crimson(1996), Divine(1998), No One Writes to the Colonel(1999), Such is Life(2000) and The Ruination of Men(2000).
