<Yuma> fascinatingly depicts the experiences of a young Polish man going astray and becoming a gang member like a famous Hollywood revisionist western Bonnie and Clyde. Set in the early 1990s, a 20-year-old man, Zyga, living near the border with Germany steals things across the border. It started with small things, but as his friends get involved, the burglary grows into a business. The early 1990s is the time when capitalism began to spread in East Europe. <Yuma>dynamically portrays the situation that people became materially wealthy while spiritually poor by using the genre convention. Material affluence leads to even stronger possessiveness and conflicts and the distrust and betrayal among friends rather than making people’s life happier. Just as Bonnie and Clyde tells the story of the Great Depression, <Yuma> depicts the time of mental panic by focusing on a group of young burglars. (LEE Sang-yong)
