Program Note
<Rhino Season> is the latest film of the director Bahman Ghobadi who had filmed only on Kurds until he left Iran, because no more filming is possible there and nested in Turkey to make it. The film was based on a real story of the Kurd poet Sadegh Kamangar who was arrested during the Islamic Revolution in Iran and imprisoned for thirty years. Kurds’ favorite poet Sagel and his wife Mina were arrested during the revolution and imprisoned. Mina believed only she survived and was released after five years. She struggled to make a new life for herself and her children she had beared during the imprisonment. Sahel, in fact survived too, is released twenty five years later and goes to Turkey meet his family only to face another tragedy. <Rhino Season> is not concerned to revenge but agony and rage of a helpless man with a cruel fate. It was brilliantly starred by Monica Bellucci(Mina), the Italian superstar and Behrouz Vossoughi(Sagel), just returning from decades′ absence in Iran. (KIM Ji-Seok)
