Program Note
A remake of the Korean cinematic masterpiece, Autumn, much of this film takes place in the metaphoric space of a train compartment. Sook-Young recalls memories of the men who hurt her on a train ride to Mokpo. A few years ago, she was a prisoner on furlough accompanied by a prison guard on her way to visit her mother′s grave. She meets Hoon to whom she is instantly drawn to. With the guard′s consent, the two consume their passion. They make plans to get married but when Hoon asks his friend to return lent money, everything runs amuck. This film lack the sensitivity of the perfection of the original version, but with sexuality as the central focus, Kim Ki-Young leaves his mark. (Lee Yong-Kwan)
