Program Note
Strange things happen under a full moon. This is undeniable in the film The Day of Full Moon. Imbibed with enigma, ambiguity and magical charm, the film blurs the line between the present and the past, dream and reality. This film involves over eighty characters and as the story unfolds, one can see that seemingly unrelated lives of total strangers are intricately intertwined in mysterious ways. The viewer is struck by two female images - those of the dazzlingly beautiful woman in violet and a fairy princess, who is reincarnated as a prostitute who looks like Madonna - as Shakhnazarov takes you on an unforgettable trip through a surreal reality.
