Program Note
It is December 31, 1999 and the world will end at midnight. With the end only a few hours away, people are now struggling with the minor complications of life as they try to arrange the perfect end. With no more night, the sun shines brightly, leaving everything naked to the eye. Public services have nearly collapsed and public facilities are all but abandoned. A different kind of end-of-the world film, we don′t have dramatic combat sequences, or a complete loss of control. The story is distilled to a few individuals: Preferring to spend the end in private contemplation, Patrick wants to get out of dinner with his parents who stage a happy Christmas from the past, his sister and her boyfriend want to join the young crowds gathered to "share" the end at one big party, and his friend Craig is going through his wish list of sexual experiences he must have before the end. Then there is Sandra, whom Patrick meets unexpectedly, a woman desperate to get home to fulfill the suicide pact she made with her husband. At the very end, Patrick and Sandra choose to spend their last moments together. What would you do? Who would you do it with? (Im-Hyun-Ock)
