<Dangerous Liaisons> is a powerful and mesmerizing adaptation of the famous French novel 『Les Liaisons Dangereuses』 written by Choderlos de Jaclos. The film is set in the 1930's Shanghai, “Paris of the East’ and star cast including Jang Dong-gun, Zhang Ziyi, and Cecilia Cheung. When a charity ball is held for refugees from the Japanese-occupied Northeast, the glamorous entrepreneur and liber tine Mo Jieyu strikes a deal with her ex-lover, the devastatingly handsome playboy Xie Yifan to get revenge on her most recent lover. But Xie turns his eyes on a different prize of an innocent Du Fenyu and as the stakes increase, the game becomes dangerous for everyone involved. From Stephen Frears’ <Dangerous Liaisons> (1988) and <Milos Forman’s Valmont> (1989) to E J-Yong’s <Untold Scandal> (2003), this novel has been adored by many directors.
