Program Note
The life is a struggle to survive in a jungle. A student majoring Philosophy suffers from lack of money and loneliness being under the pressure of the atmosphere of poverty, total survival competition, division of the rich and the poor. This expressionless man castrates feelings, and decides to focus on reasoning power of his own. As he concludes that violence can be permitted to archive higher purpose, a shop owner and a usual shopper become the victims of his crime. As he feels love which cannot be described by reasons, his feelings of guilty grows more and more. Adopted by Dostoevsky's novel "Crimes and Punishment," the master filmmaker Darezhan Omirbayev depicts today's Almaty that has to deal with suffering moral dilemmas. (PARK Sungho)
