Everything Went Fine, François Ozon’s adaptation of an autobiographical work by Emmanuèle Bernheim, is the latest in a series of mature works presented that nonetheless exhibits the same youthful sensibility that distinguished Ozon’s debut films, nearly twenty years ago. The film centers on a modern bourgeois family and asks questions about "the choices and procedures of aging and death that we must face." André Dussollier, Charlotte Rampling, Hanna Schygulla, and Sophie Marceau, all major stars of the golden age of European art films, give stellar performances. At one point Dussollier’s character pleads, "Help me end my life.. Are you listening to me?" over Brahms’s Sonata No. 3 as interpreted by Julius Katchen, in a stunningly moving juxtaposition.
