With his first feature, The Wild Boys (2017), director Bertrand Mandico demonstrated an unlimited creativity and unique talent. With his latest work, he presents a colorful futuristic western film set in another galaxy with After Blue (Dirty Paradise) and invites us to join a special voyage. A mother and a daughter leave a planet where only women live in search of a legendary soldier. Wandering in the wild, they come across a hunter, an artist, and an android. This voyage to the unknown is more reminiscent of the films of Alejandro Jodorowsky or Federico Fellini than of anything found in French cinema. Mandico clearly admires the resistant women who stand against all types of oppression. The film won the FIPRESCI prize at the Locarno International Film Festival 2021. (SEO Seunghee)

Bertrand MANDICO

Born in March 1971 in Toulouse, Bertrand Mandico joined CFT Gobelins in Paris where he graduated from animation cinema. He wrote and directed numerous short and medium-length films selected and awarded in numerous festivals or retrospectives. In 2011, Boro in the Box was presented at the Directors′ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, and his first feature The Wild Boys (2017) was well received worldwide, invited to prestigious film festivals around the world including the Venice Film Festival 2017. After Blue (Dirty Paradise) was in the competition section and won FIPRESCI Prize at the Locarno Film Festival this year.
