Hong’s film unfolds as a series of distinct and separate episodes. In the first one, Youngho (Shin Seokho) visits his father′s oriental clinic for something important, but the two do not face each other properly until the end of the episode. In the second, Juwon (Park Miso) has just arrived in Germany with her mother to study abroad, when she receives a phone call that her boyfriend Youngho has followed her to Germany. In the third episode, Youngho is accompanied by his friend to a place where his mother and an old theater actor eat at the beach. The three episodes that make up Introduction are presented without any explicit connections. Hong shows the same lack of interest in connecting shots with one another as always. He even seems indifferent to the form of dividing or connecting spaces and combining or separating time. Instead, Hong focuses only on the two main characters in each episode. It seems succinct, but in fact, the radical attempt is touching. At the 2021 Berlin Film Festival, he won the Silver Bear Award for Best Screenplay. (NAM Daeun)
