After winning multiple awards at Venice and Berlin, director Aleksey German Jr. arrived at Cannes with House Arrest, a whistleblower′s drama that is perfectly in sync with the current events around the world. As the saying goes, "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down", so when professor David posts a caricature of the town mayor having too much fun with an ostrich (accusing the powerful politician of corruption) on social media, tables are turned against him and he is placed under house arrest for embezzlement. The only person to speak six languages, David is the pride of his mother and his town, so he refuses to give up in this battle against Goliath. But as the condition of his apartment and his health both slowly deteriorate, and his family faces increasing threats, the film makes its spectators wonder whether or not his conviction for righteousness may hamper the road to justice.
